The Limitations of Mathematics

Predicting the Future is not an easy job: Let a scientist warn us about the limitations of mathematical predictions!

Professor Ronald Meester from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands, (and author of the book “Arrogant“) argues that we should be very careful when we use mathematical models and make decisions based plainly on the numerical outcome of these models.

The numbers and figures that come out of these models can only be meaningful if they are realistic enough. Often we need conventional wisdom rather than mathematics.
